Class photograhs c.1930

I think Stanford Road School must originally have encompassed both infants and juniors on the same site.  My father-in-law Geoff Green, was born in Brighton in 1923, and lived in Exeter Street. He went to Stanford Road School. In the two photographs here, he looks to be about seven years old, which would make the date approximately 1930.

  • They certainly were on one site. I was at Stanford Rd from 1954 until 1961; the infants was to the south and the entrance was from Stanford Rd, almost opposite a motor repair and petrol garage, the juniors was the northern extension and the entrance was from Coventry St. Without the supplied dates I would have put the lower photo much later just by noting the fashions.

  • Geoff it surprised me as well, I would have guessed at a later date, but c.1930 is correct as its definitley my FIL in the photo, and same boy as the top photo, which does look 1930. It looks like they were all dressed in their Sunday Best for the lower photo.
