I came across this photo recently of the Stanmer Secondary School trip to Cornwall in 1966.
It shows our group and teacher Mr Thrower (Miss Harvey also went).
I also went on the later school trip to Opatija in the then Yugoslavia in 1968 and if I can find the photos I will upload them too.

I think that is me at the front, posing as always in the red outfit. Right behind me is Sharon Vane and to her side is Susan Steer. Really thought we were grown up, going away from home. Had a great time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember Sharon Vane. Susan Steer married John Ashley who is also in the photo. I think the girl on your left in the blue is Sylvia Valder. I can also spot Alan Coltherd, Richard Knight & Keith Nye.
If you go to the Stanmer pages & look at 1960s class photo I have a pic there of our class a couple of years after that trip & there is also an entry for the Cornwall trip when we went to see Barbara Hepworth.
Glad you found this pic & nice to get your response. I remember that holiday well but cannot remember the name of the big cliff top hotel we stayed in ?
I also went on the trip to Opatija in Yugoslavia. Others were Susan Foulkes, Keith Spencer, Rodney Eason. Mr Morrison and his wife.
Hi Sally, I definitely have pics of Opatija somewhere and remember the very long train journey to get there. Keith Spencer was a mate back in the day and I certainly remember the names of Rodney Eason and Susan Foulkes. I was in Mr Morrison’s class and was mates with his son Mike although contact was lost after school. I have a pic up on this site of my class in the Stanmer section.
I understand that there is a Stanmer School reunion in March although I have no details.
Yes indeed we have mutual friends in Gillian & Ian – I have known them since before they were married.
The Stanmer reunion is 3pm on Sunday 4th March at Wetherspoons, Brighton Marina. Why not join the Stanmer County Secondary School fb page, Rob Tasker.
All those names made me realize I was in that class, I didn’t go on the trip but was looking up the connection with Barbara Hepworth and my school as I still love her work and remember the house shield very clearly.

Hi Doreen, if you check the article on here labelled “Cornwall trip 1966 – Barbara Hepworth” I posted a photo I took of her in her gardens at St Ives on that trip as we had a visit to see her.
Hi Rob, Not sure if you will see this as you asked the question about 4 years ago… but I Just found my diary of our class trip to Newquay (we all had to do one if you remember!!) It is a bit battered but still in rather good condition considering it is about 55 years old. The name of the hotel was Beaconsfield House, The Crescent, Newquay.

Yes I’m still here – thank you I would never have remembered the name of the hotel but can still picture it near the cliff down to the beach. I don’t have my diary but I have also posted this pic a while back in the private facebook group for Stanmer School where a few of our old alumni reside.
