I am very sorry but I cannot be absolutely sure as to the year this photograph was taken, but it must be around the early 60s or so.

Most of the names I can seem to remember and I also seem to remember that year was a close band of brothers.
The names are: Morris, Ward, Bond, Milton, Wagstaff, Cryer, Saunders, Renton, Greengrass, Sawyer, Quail, Drake. My apologies to the others, rest assured it is nothing personal. For curiosity’s sake I would be interested to hear from any survivors.

Stephen, I think your prep class was 2 years ahead of mine so that would place it around 1962! I recognise Marcus Milton in the right hand corner and I think Wagstaff on the other side but could not see Malcolm Wood, he and his brother Robin (third year?) were my next door neighbours along with Michael Underwood. The location must be the old gym/refectory.

Gosh,I don’t remember having this photograph taken and I certainly don’t have this with my old papers. I am sitting at the front, third from the left. Barry Renton is sitting next to me, second from left. I remember Martin Camillin and John Cryer. Martin is in the middle row second in from left. Yes we were a close band because the class only had about 17 pupils and we had good tuition from Brian Guyver history and music, and Brother Edmund our form master and a Brother who taught geography whose name I forget. It was the happiest school year for me. I never felt comfortable with the numbers who piled into the school the following year and subsequent years to 1970 when I left with quite poor A level results. I have to say that I knuckled down to serious study long after I left school. Anyway congratulations to Stephen for posting this photo.
I was very interested to see the photo but knew nobody. I graduated from Xaverian college in 1960 (from the 6th form) and wonder how many others are in contact?
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I’m looking for anyone that used to know my dad and his family, who went to this school. His name is Paul Steele and his brothers were John, Bobby and Peter. It’s his birthday soon and I’m trying to piece together some of his life. I think he started around 1947 and left around 1957. Abby, please refer to the history of Attree Villa on this site and you will find a reference to your dad. I was in Bro. Edmund’s class with his younger brother, Bobby Steele in 1964/65.

I was at Xaverian from about 1960 until 1962. I left when my father died and we moved back to Ireland. The only names I can remember from my short time there are Jimmy Symington and Marcus Milton.
Others in that photo not mentioned so far are: Finlay, Faulkner, Lee, Mallinson, Edwards, Leishman
Also in that year group but not in the photo as far as I can make out are: Sellars, Hallett, D’Enno, Osborne, Maltby, Jones, Finlayson, King. There are still others I can’t remember I’m afraid.
Teaching staff included Brother Eugene, Brother Michael and a lay teacher Smith in addition to those mentioned.
I was only there for about a year 1964/5 so I doubt anyone will remember me.
Hello, I was just wondering if any students who were there during the 60’s remember my beloved Father, Bernard Swan, who taught among other subjects, Geography at the Xaverian , or my brother, Hans Swan who also attended, till 1965 aged 11. I would love to know . My Father passed away this year, aged 92 years young and still so vibrant and perfectly cognisant..Thank you.
Gail – I remember a Mr Swan who I thought taught maths as opposed to geography. He had a goatee beard which – to our amusement- he used to stroke and scratch a fair bit. Could it be your father? Other masters around the time were Mr Lewis, plus brothers Timothy, Kieran, Patrick, Michael and two Mr Smiths: one nice, and one not so!
Re: Mr Swan,
“You are required to furnish this homework with maps”, I think he used to tell us! Not bad days there my “tour of office” being 1961 – 1966.
Went there yesterday but the “Pepper-Pot” and the Gazebo is all that is left standing.
