Photo taken in the 1940s

This is a photo of my friend Bev Lee’s grandmother. It was taken some time in the 1940s.

It shows the Undercliff Walk and Marine Gate in the background.

Can anyone tell us just where this photo was taken?

  • I would say it’s the Blackrock Lido.

  • I don’t remember this railing but do remember walking along the Undercliff Walk to Rottingdean and back with my cousins. If the tide was out we used to climb over the rocks and pick the winkles. This was before the Marina was built.

  • Hi there, this photo was taken at Black Rock before the Brighton Marina was built. The flats in the background are the Marine Gate Flats.

  • I had forgotten the Black Rock swimming pool. We used to go there. Sunday afternoons there were water polo matches.
