A beautiful bollard

Bollard in Cavendish place

This is Brighton at its best – a beautiful bollard. It could have been made out of sugar. It’s fine filigree, so lacy and light. It seems difficult to imagine it being made out of iron. Of course it wasn’t originally, it was made out of wood and somebody like my great grandfather would have been responsible for producing it. He actually worked opposite where we live now in Regent’s Foundry. We didn’t know when we bought the house.
