I am the eldest grandson of Herbert and Caroline Saul, whose house at 88 Greenways is visible left of picture in the 1925 view. My late aunt, Bettie Saul, is in your book as the baby contest winner and at the opening of the village hall about 1930. Gran & Grandad are buried at St Wulfrans and I was christened there in 1946 approx. I have fond memories of Ovingdean and Gran used to take me up to her friend Mimi Brown at the cafe. I now live in Rugby but will be visiting Ovingdean in the near future. I enjoyed the book, I have copy number 24 and may be able to provide some more information later.
I wrote a comment recently about Betty Saul and the opening of the village hall. I later noticed a comment on Greenways (which I remember as a small kid) by Julian Saul, who is a distant relative. Can we contact each other. I don’t mind you sending my email.
Editor’s note: Sorry Ges but when Julian left that message it was not necessary to leave an email address, so we don’t have one for him. As Betty Saul who was mentioned in my book died years ago, I have no other contact with the family. Jennifer
