The rooms weren't very big

The houses next to mine were knocked down. There was a little row of houses that had quite nice gardens, then more houses where the rooms weren’t very big, then the road went up to a builder’s yard, where Ivory Place narrowed, and at the Rich­mond Hill end there were six or seven houses which had very long gardens.

On the other corner coming down from Richmond Street, the Grand Parade side, at the top corner there was an upholsterer’s, which was all knocked down for the wi­dening of the road. It was a very long building, opposite Richmond Buildings, then there were a row of terraced houses opposite the builder’s yard.
