I went to school in the Old Barn at the end of the war. It was used whilst Carden School was being built. It was a 16th century building and I still have photos of it before they demolished it in the 1960s.

I have such fond memories of the shops here in the 50’s/60’s. I went to Patcham School for a while and used to spend my one shilling school dinner money at the shops there (until my mother found out!!) For a shilling I got a bread roll, a pkt of crisps, a tomato and a doughnut. There was a tiny shop run by an old gentleman who sold powdered sherbet in a paper bag and you could have two ounces for three pence. Those were the days!!!
