  • I remember J. Sainsbury’s when they rolled the cheeses across the pavement to deliver them. You had to queue at different counters, depending on what you were buying. The butter was patted into shape and handed over in grease proof paper. They sold lovely square shaped meat pies and also pies filled with apricot jam. As a small child it seemed to take all day to shop.
