A foot in the past
Brighton may move on and embrace modernisation, but one part of it will always have a foot in the past, keeping as true to its Victorian past as technology and health and safety laws allow. Magnus Volk’s 1883 creation, the Volks Railway, lives on and is one of the top tourist attractions in the city.
Nice family ride
Essentially all it does is travel along the seafront – the bit where there’s not a lot to see – and it may not appeal to thrill-seekers raised on the adrenalin rushes of contemporary theme park rides. What it does do, however, is make for a nice family ride along the seafront on the world’s oldest operating electric railway.
