I have a couple of strong memories of my grandmother buying me a toy in a shop I thought was in Meeting House Lane (right hand side as you go from North Street) and that it had a red canopy outside and sold marbles and tiny jars of beads. It would have been the 1980’s sometime? I think I got an Amanda Jane doll.
Also, in Castle Square, possibly where Gunns florist is – was this ever a jewellery shop or gift shop? I had a necklace (not precious metal or high end) from there, bought by my grandmother. Again 1980-ish?
