Arnold House Hotel by Eric Masters 19 August 2003Can anyone tell me what happened to this hotel in the Montpelier rd area of Brighton14 replies Re: Arnold House Hotel by Viv 26 April 2005The hotel was in Upper North St and was converted into flats several years ago Re: Arnold House Hotel by Mo Harris 13 April 2008Helllo Viv! I see from another message that Upper North Street ran into Montpelier Terrace so I think the Arnold House I am looking for was probably the same building you mention as I visited last year and am convinced the flats are where Arnold House was. I know from an electoral roll in the mid-1930’s that my Grandfather lived at Arnold House, 15 Montpelier Terrace, Brighton and I visited him just once in the 1950’s before he came to live with my family in 1956 so the hotel was still there then. I understand the building was opened in the early 1930’s and two ladies are shown as the owners and they needed permanent residents to help them through the winters. My Grandfather was one of those and was the last to move out. I really want to trace a photograph. Would you have one or know where one exists? The hotel next door or next door but one to the flats told me there is a photograph of Arnold House in Hove Museum but they can’t trace it. I hope you can help me. I checked out the 1881 census and the Willett family were living there then…. I wonder if that jug is still there somewhere???
