Automobile Association by Caroline Tyler 1 January 2020 6:51 AMPlease could you tell me when the AA had an office in Oxford Street, Brighton? I believe it was in the 1980s. Thanks.6 replies Re: Automobile Association by Tim Sargeant 2 January 2020 9:38 AMI have checked telephone books back to the 1970s and cannot find the AA listed at the address you mention. The main Brighton address given for the AA at that time is 10 Churchill Square. (Members, Travel and Insurance) In the 1988 ‘phone book there is a listing at No 50 West Street Brighton. I also checked half a dozen or so period AA Handbooks and the Churchill Square address is given for the South East area. Prior to that they were at Fanum House, 163 Preston Road Brighton where they are shown in their pre-war handbooks. I seem to remember them being there opposite Preston Park in the 1950s. I think that address was re-developed in the 1960s as there is a modern office block on the site now. Re: Automobile Association by Margaret Seymour 3 January 2020 7:52 AMYes, there was a first floor unmarked AA Office in Oxford Street. A friend of mine worked there, and I remember being told that in the 1987 storm there were supermarket trolleys flying past the windows! Re: Automobile Association by Dan O'Shaughnessy 4 January 2020 6:23 AMI recollect there being a AA office in Marlborough Place half way between the King and Queen pub and North Road. This was in the 60s and 70s, may have been there later. It was used as a 24-hour call centre, and there were approximately 35 people working there.
