Bruce Green and Edith Clopet by Jackie Matthews 10 March 2010Can anyone give me information about these two people, please? I believe they were pantomime artists in Brighton. Thank you Jackie7 replies Re: Bruce Green and Edith Clopet by Roy Grant 11 March 2010You’ve not put a birth year to Edith, so I cannot be sure that she is the same Edith Clopet that David Dubar on Genes Reunited has an interest in. His Edith was born in London in 1896. Re: Bruce Green and Edith Clopet by Roy Grant 11 March 2010Have now found an earlier enrty of yours on the My B & H site and that of Debbie which put my suggested birth year of 1896 about right. Suggest you contact David Dunbar who has Edith Mary (1896) and her siblings, Harold Max Albert (1900) Charles Frederick Karl (1902) and Robert Leonard Clopet (1909) in his family tree. Re: Bruce Green and Edith Clopet by Roy Grant 11 March 2010Harold died 1906 but the remainder of the Clopet family can be found in Wandsworth on the 1911 census as CLOKET. That census suggests Edith was born a little later in 1898. CLOKET EDITH MARY b1898 13 Wandsworth London CLOKET KARL bI.O.Wight 1903 Wandsworth London CLOKET MARY b1872 age 39 Wandsworth London CLOKET MURIEL b1910 5 MONTHS Wandsworth London CLOKET ROBERT b1909 2 Wandsworth London Re: Bruce Green and Edith Clopet by Roy Grant 12 March 2010Could not find the Clopet family on the 1901 UK census, except for their newly born daughter born the Isle of Wight 1901, living in Berwick on Tweed under the name Clepet with a local family. Another line of research has shown that in 1900, Charlotte Towerson of Berwick married Ary Bernard Clopet, Master Mariner and citizen of France in Newcastle, as did a Marie Aristide V B Clopet, a presumed sister of Ary. I therefore deduce some inter-family connection between the Clopets of France, Isle of Wight, London, Newcastle and Berwick. The absences of key family members in the census years and no UK registration of a birth for Harold Clopet in 1900, could mean the family were occasionally abroad or at sea. Re: Bruce Green and Edith Clopet by Roy Grant 12 March 2010Wish this site had a correcting facility because a couple of small boobs. [1] The girl born IOW still appears wih the Berwick Clopets in 1911, so she must have been a child from a visiting Clopet family from Berwick. [2] I thought Marie Aristede Clopet was female, but he turns out to be another sea captain. His ship, the Southport, out of Neath (South Wales) was a steel-screw steamer, 339 ft long and 46 ft wide, with a gross tonnage of 3,588 tons, built at Stockton in 1902. In 1914, at the outbreak of war, the ship was quaranteened in Asia by German authorities, with her master, Captain Aristide Clopet, who traveled with his wife on board, and a crew of about 27. They seem to have escaped however and then lodged a claim for the ships salvage with the authorities in Queensland. Re: Bruce Green and Edith Clopet by Jackie Matthews 15 March 2010Thanks Roy. I am building the Clopet family tree but have not so far found any other mention of Edith being married to Bruce Green. I did have most of the information you posted but the 1911 stuff is new so many thanks for that. You are correct about the maritime connection which is making tracing quite diffciult. I’ll keep searching! Kind regards Jackie Re: Bruce Green and Edith Clopet by Clopet Clopet 19 May 2023 10:52 AMWhy are you building my family tree, and who are you?
