corana man by duffy 6 March 2010does anyone remember the corona man that came around the streets.7 replies Re: Corona man by Tim Sargeant 6 March 2010‘Niblets’ were a little sort-of cheesy biscuit. It was 3d back on the bottles; When you relate that to money today it was quite a lot. I calculated it to 55p! (11/- in old money today) TCS. Re: Corona man by Roy Grant 6 March 2010Yes, especially the unusual wire snap down stoppers (which are now coming back by the way) and the way the crates for the various flavours were loaded at an angle so the lorry became a sort of mobile drinks dispensing shop Re: Corona man by angel 6 March 2010am i right in thinking we got a return on the empty bottles. our man came fridays, we had cream soda, and cherryade, fancy some now atually. Re: Corona man by Janet 6 March 2010The Corona man used to come round Hollingdean too. I particularly remember the ice-cream soda and limeade, although our parents didn’t buy off him every week – couldn’t afford to – but I’ve an idea they used to pay him a little each week to ensure we had plenty at Christmas. Re: Corona man by Andy Grant 6 March 2010I seem to remember you got quite a bit back on the bottles, but can’t remember if it was 3d or 6d. I remember collecting R. White & Tizer bottles and getting money for them in the local sweet shop. Other flavours we used to get off the Corona man were dandelion and burdock and ginger beer, but I know that they often did not have the flavours you wanted when the lorry called. Where we lived there also used to be a van come round selling freshly made crisps, in many flavours, but they were more like quavers or prawn crackers than potato crisps. Regards Andy Re: Corona man by Joan 6 March 2010When money allowed I too remember the corona cherryade and cream soda. Andy don’t remember them from a van but I think those ‘crisps’ might have been called ‘niblets’ Re: Corona man by Sheila Jones 6 March 2010I too can remember the Corona man at Hollingdean, the money off them and Lemonade Bottles took me up the Regent on a Thursday night..
