Coxens of Brighton

by Peter Wherritt 30 April 2010

Hello,

I’m hoping someone may be able to cast some light on the Coxen Family who were living in Brighton between about 1810 and 1830. Robert Coxen and Mary Ann had several children in Brighton : Elizabeth; Mary Ann; Sarah; James and Thomas. I have only been able to find baptisms for Mary Ann and Sarah in the IGI (at St Nicholas Church). I have been unable to find the Marriage of Robert and Mary Ann (she came from London).

Robert was a Butcher who moved to Birmingham sometime between 1820 and 1830 but was living in Gardner Street, North Laine in 1818. I wondered if there had been a Butchers Shop in Gardner Street but I haven’t been able to find any Trade Directories old enough to check this.

I live some distance from Brighton so I’d really appreciate any additional information that members of this group can provide on this family.

Thank You
Peter
