Crown & anchour pub, Preston PK by janis 25 February 2005Is this pub the same pub where the 1832 inquest into the first trunk murder was held?1 reply Re: Crown & anchour pub, Preston PK by Andy Grant 27 February 2005Janis, You are correct that the inquest was held in the “Crown & Anchor” in Preston, but the date was Sunday, 14th August 1831 (not 1832). The inquest was held by the West Sussex area coroner, J.L.Ellis, concerning a torso found in a trunk on 13th August. The remains were conveyed to a barn owned by Mr.W.Stanford, where an autopsy was conducted by Mr. John Hargreaves in the presence of Mr. Richardson, Mr. Hewitt and Mr. Lawrence (also medical men). The body was found to be that of Celia Holloway. Her husband John Holloway was found guilty of the murder and hanged in December of that year. His bigamous wife Ann Kennett was found not guilty of complicity in the murder the following year.Regards Andy Add your replyHiddenAdd your title Add your wordsWould you like to add some images (optional)?
