It was the venture of journalist W.H Speer who realised the potential of film. He called his 30 seater cinema “The electric bioscope” and charged one penny and two penny admission. 1914 it became “Queen’s picture Dome” 1922 “Scala” 1932 “Regal” 1936 “Curzon” 1975 “Classic” Closed as a cinema in 1979. Hope that helps. Re: curzon cinema by Sheila Cork 30 March 2010Was the Curzon the one with the piano infront of the screen? or was it the Embassey? Re: curzon cinema by David Hurrell 1 April 2010I remember a piano in front of the screen at the Embassy but I don’t recall it ever being played. No piano at the Curzon as far as I can recall.
