Dean Street pub by Jean 26 February 2008Does anyone know of a pub which was (is?) at the corner of Dean Street & Western Road – possibly The King Albert or similar name. Thanks.5 replies Re: Dean Street pub by Mike 26 February 2008Hi Jean!I think you mean the Prince Arthur pub which was in Dean Street. Actually, it’s still there but it’s been done up and is called the PA for short now I believe. Re: Dean Street pub by Keith 27 February 2008the 1970 Kellys shows no 1 dean street as being the Cat and the Cucumber restaurant and no 38 as the Prince Arthur public house with a resident as Esme Wheeler Re: Dean Street pub by Mike 27 February 2008Yes – that’s right Keith. The landlady’s name was indeed Esme. A lovely woman who ruled the pub with an iron fist in a velvet glove! She was always both firm AND fair when anybody had had too much to drink and the regulars respected her greatly for it… Re: Dean Street pub by Jean 27 February 2008Thanks, Mike & Keith, for this info.
