I seem to be finding some diversity of opinion in local history books regarding East street and it’s history. I am looking from 1700 onwards.
Some refer to East street as the “east end” of town and being a rough area with poor housing.
Others seem to paint a picture of prosperity and houses around Brighton Place being built to service the East Street area amongst others.
Some assistance would be welcome.
