I am a committee member of a group dedicated to “Remembering Edward Bransfield”, a native of our village of Ballinacurra Cork. Edward was the first to survey and chart the then newly discovered continent of Antarctica, 1820. It is our intention to erect a memorial to him marking the 200th anniversary of his historic voyage of discovery.
He retired from the Royal Navy mid 1820/30s, and lived the last years of his life at 61 London Road. He and his wife were buried Extra-Mural Cemetery.
We would be keen to learn of any local knowledge of him.

many thanks
