Filming in Hartington Road

by Geoff Robbins 19 November 2014

I grew up in Hartington Road and remember seeing, one early evening after school in the late 1960’s early 1970’s, a film crew filming a sequence in the upper half of Hartington Road on the steepest section near the top. The sequence wasn’t long but was rehearsed/filmed several times before they wrapped up for the night. It consisted of a hearse and possibly another undertaker’s limo, being driven wildly down the hill, swerving from side to side as it came.

I have often wondered what film it could have been for (and even whether the scene made it to the final cut). From a distance, it looked like the sort of sequence that might have been used in something like a Carry On film or one of the other slapstick type films of that era but I could be wrong on that.

A long shot, I know, but does anyone have any ideas what it might have been?
