Thanks to Maralyn, ‘j’ and Cryil. I did drive around the Preston Park area last time I was in Brighton( and sundry other parks) but the houses didn’t look right – but it there is a gap of 70 years! I do remember nearby shrubs which we played in. I hope to be in Brighton later this year so will have another look.
Incidentally I was evacuated to and lived for 20 years in a rather inferior Sussex town – Bognor – but at least it kept me in touch with the sea.
