I’m related to the Dainty family who lived in one of the railway houses at the bottom, near to Colebrook Road. The Industrial Estate used to be a railway goods yard, and coal distibution centre. Previous to that I believe it was a railway station, known as Kemp Town R.S. Southdown bus company had a depot opposite, next to a telephone exchange – and at the bottom on each corner were the Star, and Great Eastern pubs.
