Edward Gaston (whose sister I have directly descended from) died at 17 Mount Zion Place in January 1886 aged 62. The National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations) states:
“Administration ………….. was granted at Lewes to Edward Gaston of 7A Queens Road Brighton Undertaker and Thomas Gaston of the Rosary South-Down Road Preston {Brighton} Undertaker the Sons the Residuary Legatees in Trust”
Son Thomas (1851-1912), living by Preston Park in 1886 according to his father’s Probate details, is listed as Undertaker at 7A Queens Road on the 1881 census. Could he have been living “above shop”? He moved away from Brighton shortly after his father’s death.
Son Edward (1849-1908) is also listed as Undertaker on the 1881 census but cannot be found on the 1891 census. He appears again on the 1901 census in Church Street, Occupation: Undertaker – “own account”.
Does anyone have any information please of Gaston (or Gaston Bros.)Undertakers?
Thanks in advance.
