Gloucester Terrace by Harry AMEY 24 September 2004Can anyone tell me where the above is? My ancestors lived there (at number 4) in 1866 but the road doesn’t seem to exist today.4 replies Re: Gloucester Terrace by Ian Gray 25 September 2004This is bit of a non-answer, but Gloucester Terrace didn’t exist in the 1880s either (I have a copy of a street map from that time). There was a Gloucester Road, Place and Street. Also, a Gladstone Terrace. Re: Gloucester Terrace by Harry AMEY 25 September 2004I’ve checked the address from the 1881 census and a marriage cert I have from 1866 and both show a Gloucester Terrace. I can only assume that perhaps it was a row of houses in either Gloucester Road/Place or Street. Re: Gloucester Terrace by Andy Grant 14 October 2004Gloucester Terrace did indeed exist – it is listed in directories of 1822, 1824 and 1828. What tended to happen was that a separate completed group of houses in a road was given a name such and such terrace. Quite frequently, but not always, the terrace of houses was absorbed into a development as it was completed. I could find no later reference to it than 1828. Regards Andy Re: Gloucester Terrace by Boxerdog@ihug.com.au 25 October 2004Just seen your message, regarding Glouster Terrace. Harry, the Terrace did exist, I lived there in about 1936 or so. Glouster Mews also existed, I do believe both have gone now, regards from Australia Add your replyHiddenAdd your title Add your wordsWould you like to add some images (optional)?
