Hilton twins

by Janet 12 March 2005

Daisy and Violet Hilton were conjoined twins, born in Riley Road, Brighton in 1908. Their mother, Kate Skinner was a single barmaid. The midwife present at the birth was Mary Hilton who was also the landlady of the Queens Arms, George Street and later of the Evening Star, Surrey Street. Mary Hilton “adopted” the girls and they later toured in the U.S. sideshows and the vaudeville circuit in the 1930s. The twins appeared at the Brighton Hippodrome. Does anyone have any information or memories of the twins or Mary Hilton? Where did the sisters go to school?
