HORSE DRAWN CABBIES by KAZ 27 February 2008Can anyone give me any info on Horse drawn Cabbies In Brighton 1900s please. by KAZ 27/2/084 replies Re: HORSE DRAWN CABBIES by Roy Grant 27 February 2008If you ever get a chance to do the tour of Brighton Station, on the approach slope up to the far platform you will be shown the gouges made high in the wall by the wheel bosses of the horse drawn cabs. Apparently, the drivers would back the cabs into the wall to take the load off the horse whilst they were waiting for the trains to arrive. Re: HORSE DRAWN CABBIES by Sheila Jones 27 February 2008I dont know how the buisiness worked, but my Grandad(Thomas Cork) was a horse drawn Cabbie from at least 1901.Apparently he was one of the last Cabbies to run from Brighton Station. Re: HORSE DRAWN CABBIES by Geoffrey Mead 28 February 2008On the brick wall in Terminus Road just up from the station entrance you can see a metal plate ‘HCS’ which is the area licensed for a Hackney Carriage Stand. There are others in the city still but I can only think of one other just now! in New Church Road near St Christophers School. Re: HORSE DRAWN CABBIES by Liam 29 February 2008There is another site for HCS plates, but due to the high price of memorabilia I wont mention the location!
