This is an ongoing query in an attempt to discover the identity of my father – I was adopted in the Brighton/Lewes area in 1944 and my birth certificate gave no details of him. The only lead I have, although he’ll doubtless be dead by now, is that he was said to have been ‘a naval officer’. I’ve always thought of Portsmouth as the obvious link, but were there perhaps any American or Canadian Naval personnel stationed in this area at Christmas 1943? Any help on this would be appreciated.
