Re: Mainstone Family by James Chalcroft 4 May 2020 4:19 PMOur family has an old letter written in 1946 by Mrs. Hartie Mainstone to her brother Mr. James Chalcroft in New Zealand. Another of her brothers was William (Bill) Chalcroft, who lived in London. Her husband was Frank Mainstone. At the time of writing they lived at 21 St Aubyns Rd., Portslade, Brighton. Hartie writes of her sons, Jim and Gerald Mainstone, recently returned from army duty in Germany.Hope this contribution supplies useful information. Re: Mainstone Family by Fiona Mainstone 6 June 2022 11:01 AMI have tried to reply to this entry several times and hoping that it will work this time! I am Harty Mainstone’s grand-daughter, Gerald’s youngest daughter, and would love to hear back from you, James! Re: Mainstone Family by fiona mainstone 6 June 2022 11:10 AMI am Hartie’s grand-daughter and I replied to this post a couple of weeks ago. I have not heard back from my distant cousin, James Chalcroft but really hope that he will pick up my message soon! In the meanwhile, I have checked our family records and found that Hartie died on 8th April 1946. Sadly the letter that Hartie sent to her far-away brother must have been written shortly before her death from ovarian cancer. Re: Mainstone Family by fiona mainstone 6 June 2022 11:10 AMI am one of Hartie and Frank Mainstone’s grand-daughters. My father was Gerald as referred to in Hartie’s letter. I would truly love to have the opportunity to discuss and maybe see Hartie’s letter! Please get in touch! Re: Mainstone Family by Fiona Mainstone 7 June 2022 10:38 AMHello James! I have just visited this website for the first time. Hartie Mainstone nee Chalcroft was my grandmother. Gerald Mainstone was my Dad. I would love to see Hartie’s letter to her brother and am happy to share whatever information you might be interested in. How are you related to Hartie? This is my second message. I’m not sure the first one worked so am trying again! Re: Mainstone Family by Fiona Mainstone 7 June 2022 10:38 AM zoomHello! Hartie Mainstone is my grandmother! Her son Gerald was my Dad. I never met her because she died some time in the late 1940s. I would be very happy to share the little information I have about her and would be equally happy to find out any more you might know about her and her family. I live in Brighton. Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of her at to add to this reply but can add one of me and my husband on holiday so that you can see I am an ordinary kind of person!!! Re: Mainstone Family by Fiona Mainstone 16 November 2022 8:33 AMThese several messages that I sent to my distant cousin James last winter evidently all fell into an administrative / technological black hole when I wrote them last winter. I’m hoping that this message might trigger a connection! Add your replyHiddenAdd your title Add your wordsWould you like to add some images (optional)?
