I remember seeing a sandstone tablet in the promenade wall dedicated to the memory of the children who died in the building of the piers. As I remember they were children from an orphanage. I assume they would have been boys, but I don’t think this was mentioned and there was a number.
Does anyone know if the stone is in situ or if it is being preserved. If anyone has any knowledge about this or pictures I would very much like to know.
