Having lived in Tha Avenue for some 50 years I feel that it is an area that is truly ignored.
The Mieklejohns were our neighbors they owned the bumper cars just by the pier, their only son was killed at Arnhem.
I attended Coombe Road School from age 4 till 11, then on to Varndean. In prewar days The Avenue was a very nice area to live with a nicely tended green running down the center wide enough for football and cricket. Who remembers the mail plane landing on the green just before the war?
Truly a nice place to grow up
