Mound in field near Mile Oak Farm by brian churchill 8 September 2020 12:04 PM zoomMound in fieldIs there any archaeological significance to this big mound in a field about 1/2 mile east of Mile Oak Farm?2 replies Re: Mound in field near Mile Oak Farm by David Shelton 16 April 2022 2:38 PMIt looks like one of a few gun emplacements for wartime antiaircraft found along the South Downs. I stand corrected if it isn’t one but on Google Earth you can see what looks like a mounting in the centre. Re: Mound in field near Mile Oak Farm by Mark Standen 3 NovemberI believe that is the camp fire site the local youths use when they camp there overnight ! What I don’t know about is the large vented metal grid with a very heavy padlock on the trap door that is at the back of the mound now partially hidden by brambles. I grew up nearby and can’t remember it being the in the 70’s / 80’s. Could it be part of the claimed military installations rumoured to be in Southwick Hill / Southwick Tunnel – could be a tunnel vent Add your replyHiddenAdd your title Add your wordsWould you like to add some images (optional)?
