Parkes the Sweep

by Richard J 17 February 2008

Hi
It is 39° here in Adelaide and a good time to do some more research.

Since this is the BEST site I must pose the following questions.

Albert Parkes DOB 28/06/23 (Deceased 2005) was Parkes the Sweep (Ph Btn 67396)of 46 Lincoln st (1950/60’s) and spent his early years on the road with his father Percy J and his youth (1934-1940) in an agricultural institutional school in Woodindean.

His mother was a Charlotte Pierce DOB 1892 and from a Brighton Fishing family.

Has anyone any memories of Parkes the Sweep?

Are there any records available of workhouse (Elm Grove?)residents/deaths (Charlotte) for period 1923 to 1935.

Are there any available info sources for the Woodindean institution? (A Pic would be great)

Is there any available info on the Pierce family of fisherfolk?

Any info will be much appreciated as I know how much time is involved.

Stay cool
