Paul/Stovell families by Ken 1 August 2009Any help on the Paul or Stovell families Brighton & Hove 1900 to,date6 replies Re: Paul/Stovell families by Lottie 1 August 2009Probably not unless you can be more specific. There were two Stovells in Brighton in 1901: Naomi, a 24 year old widow born Seddlescombe Sx who was a visitor at 22 Coleman Street and Catherine, a six year old “nurse child” born Brighton and resident at Peel Place. There were 44 persons with the surname Paul in Brighton in the 1901 census. There were no Stovells named in the 1917 Pikes Directory for Brighton and Hove but 13 Pauls. In the 1932 Kellys directory for B&H there was only one Stovell – Thomas Stovell of 460 Portland Road Hove. There were 22 with the surname Paul.At least 5 Stovell births, 4 Stovell marriages and 2 Stovell deaths were registered in Brighton between 1900 and 1950. Without some first names though its hard to know if any are the ones you are interested in.If you want to trace these families its best to work backwards from what you know – preferably by looking at the earliest birth or marriage certificate you can find for any of them. Marriage certs give the bride and groom’s father, birth certs give father and mother usually. Then you can trace their marriages and so find their parents etc. at least back until 1837. Re: Paul/Stovell families by Roy Grant 2 August 2009The Genes website lists three people interested in the Brighton Stovell family. One focuses on 1921-1952, the other two on 1989. The same website has 201 Brighton Pauls listed. Even though many are repeated, I think you may have your work cut out there. Re: Paul/Stovell families by Lottie 4 August 2009Albert H Paul married Phyllis K B Stovell in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1932 in the Steyning registration district (which included Hove for a time). The reference no is 2b 783 if you want to order the marriage certificate. Add your replyHiddenAdd your title Add your wordsWould you like to add some images (optional)?
