Re: stuart norris by Tony Viney 17 September 2011Memory is coming back – I think they became ‘Driscolls ‘ departmental store Re: stuart norris by John Cording 17 September 2011I remember it very well, I worked on the delivery van for a couple of years in the late 60s, great place to work and nice staff. Re: stuart norris by Tony Viney 17 September 2011My 1972 Kellys show them as ‘Drapers’. When did they leave ? Re: stuart norris by John Cording 17 September 2011I think it was Driscolls before Stuart Norris, the whole shop front ran from George street to Ventnor Villas, not sure when it closed but it was taken over by the Hide group who had places in Richmond and Worthing, Smith and Strange was the one in Worthing. Re: stuart norris by Alan Hobden 22 September 2011I’m pretty sure it later became “House of Fraser”. The corner site is now occupied by Barclays Bank. Alan Hobden Re: stuart norris by Gordon Hepworth 26 December 2020 12:49 PMI worked there in the early to mid sixties, when I was in my late teens, as a young furniture and carpet salesman.Nice co-staff. Other salespeople in the furniture section included Mr Klien and a Canadian lady, Mrs Coverdale. Re: stuart norris by Richard White 11 June 2022 7:17 PMI worked there for a couple of summers as a student in the early sixties. My brother Tony worked there for a few years in the electrical housewares dept and did all the installation and TV repairs. Lovely people. Re: stuart norris by Daniel C. 2 August 2023 2:51 PMIn reply to Gordon Hepworth, I worked in furniture department too, In fact I think I moved into the vacancy you created when you left. I worked with the people you mentioned, we had a department manager Mr Akehurst. It was quite an education for me , serving the well to do old people of Hove at that time . Looking back the place seems to belong to a different era , it reminded me of the tv show “ Grace Brothers “ . Re: stuart norris by Bruce Rawlings 16 August 2023 12:16 PMMy late brother, Tony Rawlings, used to work Stuart Norris in the early 1960s and got us a discount on an Ercol dining suite when we got married in 1965. the chairs are still with us but we sold the table a few years ago.
