The Brighton Phrenological Institution

by Edward 12 June 2007

Does anyone have any information that they can contribute towards supplying me with some facts regarding this organisation. It existed in I think the 19th century in Brighton{possibly in one of the side streets off West Street} and was dedicated to the investigation of this now discredited pseudo science that proposed that a persons character could be read from the bumps on his their skull.Despite its sounding somewhat quaint today it was accepted by many at the time such as Joseph Gall.It was also something of a fad “science” for many years.
