My friends and I used to get the bus from Brighton on a Saturday night to watch a group. I distinctly remember watching The Pretty Things and, the “stage” seemed to be at the same level as the audience with no barrier between the group and us. The room didn’t seem to be very large and always dark and smoky. Don’t remember how we used to get home. This would have been around 1964. young again, 18 December 2007yes it was smoky and the stage was leval with the dance floor i saw various acts chris farlowe, manfred man [before fame] long john baldry and many more !!!!!!! duffy, 28 January 2010there were two brothers who almost ran the downs.one was called john, he had a limp due to his brother shooting him in the leg with a shot gun after a row , happy families young again, 10 February 2010yes they were the bundy boys think they were twins young again, 10 February 2010yes they were the bundy boys think they were twins Hilary Garside, 21 March 2020 8:41 AMOMG just seen this! I was in love with Mick Bundy! His name came up in conversation tonight and his friend Chas Hewitt. I have stories going back to 1960’s. I often wonder what became of them. Great memories of Downs Hotel music venue.Hilary x Anthony Swan, 16 April 2020 9:01 AMHappy memories of Downs Hotel. Always thought there are similarities with the Eel Pie in Twickenham. Especially remember Graham Bond Organisation with Ginger Baker. Same level on floor; right in your face. If you were at Hurst College, the Bundys were people to be aware off. Terry Fitzpatrick, 21 September 2020 5:19 PMI used to live in Haywards Heath and used to go there regularly. I worked with the Bundy brothers and they were a real handful. I also knew Chas Hewitt slightly. Did anyone go to the Pilgrim in Haywards Heath? Happy days. Michael Stratford, 17 MarchWOW! Thursday nights at the Pilgrim, with live music (Fond memories of the band ‘Orange Bicycle’) ……….
