My mother, Gwen Smith, of Boston Street, who died in ’84, told me that one sunny day when she was a child (early 1920’s, I guess) she was sitting on the beach and people started drawing attention to a dark line on the horizon. The line grew bigger and people began to leave the beach. She joined them when they started to run and reached the promenade when an enormous wave hit the beach. I can’t remember any more of her description and I am surprisd that I’ve not seen any reference to this wave anywhere. Anybody with info?
