History of Wellesley House, opposite St. Peter’s Church, now Phoenix Brighton Gallery & Studios
We are seeking information from people who may be familiar with Wellesley House from the early days. Perhaps you used to work here when it was an office building. Maybe you remember when the
building was under construction — it was erected around a house which was occupied by 89-year-old Miss Harriet Sylvester until she died in March 1974.
As part of a Phoenix Brighton history project we are gathering information for our archives, and would like to include your stories. In addition, an artist will be creating an installation for a gallery exhibition in September, based on the detail above. We would love to hear from you if you have any memories or anecdotes to share.
