The Aldrington pub: 1891 census

The pub, situated in Portland Road, was known in 1891 as “The Aldrington Hotel”, although there were no guests on the night of the 1891 census.

The residents were listed as:
Henry Williams (45) Services Victualler – b. Eckington Lines(?)
Ellen (47) wife – b. Themanbury, Sussex
Ellen (24) daughter – barmaid – b. Brighton
Hale (22) daughter – barmaid – b. Brighton
Emily (16) daughter – barmaid – b. Brighton
Frank (12) son – scholar – b. Brighton

  • 10 years later, my ancestor William James SLAUGHTER aged 41 was the Licenced Vitualler at The Aldrington Hotel. Also living at this address at 90 Portland Road was :
