Volk's Railway: Car number 9 centenary

There was a celebration this week at Volk’s Railway for the launch of the refurbished car number 9 which is 100 years old this year. Volk’s Railway was started in 1883 by Magnus Volk, and was the first electrified railway line in the country.

The celebration was attended by The Mayor and Mayoress of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Geoffrey and Mrs Sally Wells, together with representatives of the family of Magnus Volk, the inventor and builder of the railway.
