Do you know this Brighton location? Do you know what year it was?
In the middle of the row of shops there is ‘Joe’s Cafe’ – do you remember getting a bacon butty in there?

I hazarded a guess before going to the Regency Society website for confirmation, and my guess was right! Upper North Street (the Dyke Road end) in the 1950s. The buildings opposite were knocked down, and the Inland Revenue offices now stand in their place.
Wild stab in the dark with this one. It could be somewhere along Upper North street?
I think those buildings are still there. The office block is where the block of houses in the distance is, to the east of Regent Street, as the last building on the nearer row is a public house, now called The Craft Beer company or something similar.
Yes, I also think its Upper North Street.
Is Upper North Street a pleasant place to live these days?
Definitely Upper North St, at the top of Regent Hill. It used to be on my paper round.
Janet is right Neil. These old buildings, with their distinctive two-upper and one-middle window pattern, were knocked down and replaced by offices. I seem to recall they were first used by DHSS as Labour offices where unemployed people signed-on. They later became the offices for HM Inspector of Taxes, now HMRC.
I’d be very interested to know if those ugly buildings were the forerunner to the ugly building, known as Crown House on the corner of Upper North Street and Regent Hill. Is it the terrace in the foreground or is Regent Hill further along the road to the left? My need to know is because I currently work in Crown House.
The shop next to Joe’s cafe was a newsagents. When I was a young lad I used to do a paper round there. In the distance you can see what became Crown House.
