Well done those of you who rightly identified this as Upper Russell Street. Now look at the second photograph!
At first glance these photographs look exactly similar, but look at the NO WAITING sign at the entrance to Bostel Bros. premises. In the two lower photographs it has been changed to NO SMOKING, an April Fools day joke by Mr. Ron Bostel, which of course had speedily to be removed and the original sign replaced. The year is unknown. Probably the late 1950s or early 1960s, as the buildings were removed about 1965.

Looks like Trafalgar St approaching Blackman St.
I believe this is Upper Russell Street, Brighton, which was demolished to make way for the Churchill Square development.
In the background is a pub which I believe is the Lamb & Flag, at the top corner of Cranbourne St. The street in question is therefore Upper Russell Street.
A wild guess its Cranbourne Street.
Is the shop sign showing Bos Bostel Bros Builders? My Kellys shows them as 8 Cranbourne St.
This could well be Upper Russell Street, but as I am hazarding a guess please feel free to put me right. The Brighton Hardware Company is the clue.
Alan and Peter are both correct, it is Upper Russell St. I lived on the car park and often used to go to Bostals for parrafin for the heater. Just out of view is Bardsleys who sold the best fish and chips in town. Opposite the Lamb and flag was Bertie Bassett, Brightons breeziest butcher.
Lived on the car park, Peter?! Hope things are better for you now!!!
My wife’s great grandfather was Ernest L Marley who owned the Good Intent pub on Upper Russell Street. Does anyone have a photo of the Good Intent that I may use on my family tree?
