The elms before destruction

[These are] some pictures of the elms before the October 16th Hurricane claimed them. Sites like St. Peter’s Church, The Level and Woodvale Cemetery in Lewes Road had more coverage than they do nowadays.

The Level, East side: An arch averaging 20m in height, now gone and replaced by London Plane trees

East side of the Level from the West side, one week exactly before the Hurricane and possibly the last photo showing its former glory

Upper Elm Avenue on the Main Drive, Woodvale: All English elm, and now virtually all gone

English and Dutch elms on the south side of St. Peter's Church: The centre tree would easily have been 28m tall and only one of these trees now survives, as seen on the right of the picture
