Photo:This is the first Brighton Tigers ice hockey team in 1935. Jimmy Borland (front row, second left) represented Great Britain in the 1936 Olympics. The Tigers dominated the game of ice hockey for the next thirty years and were famous throughout Britain and Europe.
Photo:Brighton Tigers Supporters Club: The supporters are enjoying a moment before boarding the "Dakota" for their trip to watch their team play "Nottingham Panthers". Charlie Connell can be seen pretending to start the propeller, note the cigarette in Charlie's mouth! The service for the supporters was offered by the British Nederland Airservices and was believed to have operated from Croydon airport.
Photo:Brighton Tigers Supporters Club: This unusual photograph shows the interior of the "Dakota" in 1948, with supporters awaiting the fight with Nottingham in what seem rather large seats compared with those today. Passenger safety was obviously not a priority by the look of the overhead storage, which was open to all and sundry!
Photo:Brighton Tigers Supporters Club: This photograph was taken on Brighton promenade (opposite the Grand Hotel) and shows the Brighton Tigers ice hockey supporters club awaiting transport. The twenty-one members of the club were to make history as one of the first supporters clubs to fly to an away match in 1948. The group includes Mr FA Knowles the Brighton Sports Stadium manager and to the left with the megaphone, Mr Charlie Connell. Charlie was the cheerleader of the Tigers and could be seen at every match encouraging the supporters to urge their team on to greater heights. Familiar in his straw boater and club scarf, Charlie would shout encouragement to the crowd through a large megaphone much to their delight.
