a) WEATHER-BOARDING:

A few examples are to be found in the centre of Brighton: e.g. 29-30 and 43 Meeting House Lane; 37a Duke Street; and 179 Edward Street. There are also weather-boarded houses at 8-9 The Square, Patcham; and barns at Patcham and Stanmer.

Comments:

I was an apprentice cabinet maker/antiques restorer in the late 50's at 37a Duke Street. Mr A.G.Hook ran the company. The making was done down stairs and the French polishing and finishing was all done up stairs. Mike Hook (who ran the business until 2000) and I worked down stairs and Mr Hook, Fed Thompson and David Harrison worked on the first floor. It was good to see that the roof has been repaired, and no doubt the ground/ first joists refurbished. Happy days.
