Cuckfield Family by Jenny 20 October 2006Hi i was wondering if anyone had any information on a family named tidy living in cuckfield around 1895. Thanks Jenny3 replies Re: Cuckfield Family by Bob 25 October 2006No Tidy comes up living in Cuckfield in the 1891 or 1901 censuses though a few were born there and were living elsewhere (there wasn’t one in 1895). Are you sure it was actually Cuckfield or might it have been a nearby parish? Some first names might help track them down if you have them. Re: Cuckfield Family by David Wickham 22 November 2006In the early 50’s there was a butchers shop in the High St. caled Tidy’s. In about 1954 it changed to a greengrocers called Henley and Wickham, my Dad. I am sure that the occupants of the butchers were Tidy and lived there. We only had the shop. It was located up the hill on the east side and close to the village hall. i will see if my Dad remembers anything. Re: Cuckfield Family by Nicola Holmes 4 January 2020 6:23 AMThe Tidy’s of Cuckfield were actually spelt TIDEY (my grandfather was the butcher). I understand they started in a lock up shop near the church, graduated to the bottom of the high street. Finally lived behind/over shop near the top of the high street. On my grandmothers death the shop was sold and it is now a dwelling and beauty?? shop.
