the dip

by dominic franklin 3 November 2004

I’m a part time student at Sussex, researching the history of shopping at ‘The Dip’, Hollingbury Place near Fiveways in Brighton. Any reminiscences or information – particularly on what shops have been there since 1974 (when the Street Directories were last published), or on what it was like when the Dip was in its heyday (probably in the 1930s, according to my research) would be very much appreciated. Also, if anyone could shed any light on what sort of neighbourhood this area was, and how the Dip managed to have so many shops when Fiveways is so close by – that would be great as well. Thanks for any help anyone could give
