Court School of Dancing,Brighton by Pauline Stratton 15 August 2006Does anyone remember the teachers, Stan, Daphne, Tim, George. Where are they now? Do you have any memories?4 replies Re: Court School of Dancing,Brighton by Peter Wood 22 September 2006I remember them well. I used to go weekly on Saturday nights from 1960 until about 1966. I became good friends with Stan & Daphne & Tim, though I don’t rmember George. When I first started, there was an assistant called Ron. I managed to pass bronze, silver & gold in the IDMA exams & still have the medals to prove it!! We used to take our favourite 45’s in for Stan to play, if we were lucky. He was a great fan of the big bands & was convinced they were always about to make a come-back. Pity they were competing against Tamla Motown, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who etc etc. I moved away from ballroom dancing & ended up frequenting The Top Rank Suite at the bottom of West St. & going to many of the student gigs at Sussex University prior to moving to Australia in 1968. I returned three times to Brighton, once in the 70’s, again in the 80’s & caught up with Stan & Daphne on the first trip. The last trip was just in May this year & I found the whole building being restored & no sign of the Court. Re: Court School of Dancing,Brighton by Peter Wood 22 November 2006Pauline, are you the girl who worked at Hanningtons & lived in Moulsecoomb? Re: Court School of Dancing,Brighton by Pauline Stratton 11 September 2020 12:20 PMYes I am Peter. We had some lovely times. I was in contact with Stan by letters but haven’t heard since 1988. He said he was being made redundant from his teaching post at Chelsea College, Shoreham Airport & that he was divorced, footloose but that he had a special lady. Was doing a lot of dancing & they were dancing at the King Alfred club.I think we have been in contact via another area of Brighton & Hove. Are your Parents still around & Susan? I remember taking our son Matthew to see them when he was a baby & that was 50 years ago now.
